Let emotions pass through you, one doesn’t have to let the thoughts and emotions get their hooks into one’s self . The secret is to only be the observer of these emotions and thoughts. This way of looking at your 'voices' can bring deep inner peace.
Someone told me I should take a look at this video. (Thank you Tasha). She send me the link without telling me what is was. I was very pleasantly surprised when I opened the link. It is a recording from a radio show where Opray Winfrey talks to Eckhart Tolle. Reading a book from Eckhart Tolle has been on my to do list for a couple of years now. But somehow I did not feel ready to really hear what he has to say. I knew it was going to be deep, and was afraid of something I presumed it would be, its heaviness. To me the first six minutes of the video were already so magnetic, the words he saying resonate very much with what I am going through right now, and make me hungry for more.. I want to know all about what this man has to say....I will start with his (I think it is) first book, the power of now, and then hopefully proceed to his many others.
The voice in our head that we think is us, that we identify with and from which we respond to all people and all that is happening around us. We believe this voice is who we are. Often its very negative thoughts so the influence on our lives believing we are this (negative)voice can be very devastating and doesn’t allow us to be happy, but also doesn’t allow others who we have emotional ties with to be happy either. We are all connected so we even imprison each other while living according to and believing we are that voice. He says that real spiritual awakening and becoming free is stepping out of our stream of thinking, separate our selves from it. Then you will experience that there is another self, a deeper self that is most likely the true self. We can’t control or understand this ‘true self’ with our minds, it goes beyond that. The awakening he refers to literally means waking out of your stream of thinking. And he says when you wake up you become present, and that that is a completely different dimension of consciousness you will experience. Recognizing the true self can be done by recognizing the observer of the voice. The true self is the observer, has no judgment. Because who we truly are cannot be defined through our minds and thinking, not through labeling ourselves.
I truly wish one day I will have this experience, to be able to separate from my own voice(s) and feel the peace he is talking about.
